The Durham County Board of Commissioners approved the creation of an opt-in stipend program for eligible Boards and Commissions in August 2023. The stipends are intended to offset related expenses such as babysitting, parking, transportation, and internet usage while being a member of the Durham County Boards and Commissions.
The program pays a $50 stipend to eligible County-appointed members for each regular board meeting they attend—whether in-person or virtual. Payouts are completed quarterly in January, April, July, and October—the first payments were distributed in October 2023. Meeting attendance is verified by the Clerk's Office with staff liaisons or chairpersons. Durham County employees are not eligible for the stipend program.
Members of the eligible boards listed below who are not Durham County employees and want to opt-in: please contact Tania De Los Santos, Senior Administrative Assistant, at tdelossantos@dconc.gov or (919) 560-0072. Opting in will require members to complete and return a W9 and Vendor form.
Payouts are distributed via check only. All checks will be mailed to the address the Clerk’s Office has on file unless otherwise specified.
