Durham, N.C. – The Durham County Solid Waste Redwood Convenience Site reopened on Monday, July 7, 2025. The site was temporarily closed for one month due to tree removal, road construction, and preparations for construction on the Durham County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility. Residents will note a new traffic pattern at the site as a result of the road construction.
The Redwood Convenience Site, located at 100 Electra Road, has resumed its regular operation schedule, which is the same as the Northern Durham Convenience Site, located at 11896 N. Roxboro Road. Those facilities’ hours are:
- Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
- Saturday: 7 a.m. -12 p.m.
- Closed Sundays and County holidays/training days
During the month-long closure, the Parkwood Convenience Site located at 5928 Highway 55 in Durham operated with expanded hours in order to accommodate the additional traffic. The hours of the Parkwood Site have now returned to their regular schedule of:
- Mon, Wed, Fri: 7 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
- Tues, Thurs: 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
- 2nd Saturday of Every Month from 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
- Closed: Mon-Fri 12-12:30 p.m. and the remaining Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays/training days
Residents of unincorporated Durham County are reminded to continue using the 2024-2025 Durham County Convenience Site Decals. New decals for 2025-2026 will be issued inside the next tax bill.
