Launching Emerging Employees Program (LEEP)
The mission of the LEEP program is to develop and strengthen the lives of young people through job opportunities and career development programs. The opportunities offered are work in entry level positions and soft skills training. Weekly trainings are provided and are focused on developing soft skills. Opportunities are located in multiple Durham County Government Departments.
Eligibility: Applicants must be age 15-19 and one of the following:
- Resident of Durham County
- Enrolled in Durham Public Schools
- Child of a Durham County Government employee
Compensation: $15 per hour
Length of Internship Program: 6-8 weeks, June to August

Launching Emerging Employees Program II (LEEP II)
Eligibility: Durham Residents who are high school graduates and are enrolled at Durham Tech Community College or have completed an Associate’s degree program, Ages 19-26
Compensation: $18 per hour
Length of Internship Program: 6+ months

Durham County Management Internships
Durham County Management Interns will assist with a broad range of executive management, budget tasks, strategic research, and special projects. Internships are located in multiple Durham County Government Departments.
Eligibility: Students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) or Duke University or Durham residents enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited, four-year institution.
Compensation: $18 per hour
Length of Internship Program: 8 – 10 weeks, May – August, Full time or part time

Durham County Management Fellowships
Durham County Management Fellows will assist with a broad range of executive management, budget tasks, strategic research, and special projects. Some special projects may be more self-directed than others. Fellowships are located in multiple Durham County Government Departments.
Eligibility: Students enrolled in a graduate program at North Carolina Central University (NCCU) or Duke University or Durham residents enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited, four-year institution.
Compensation: $20 per hour for college graduates, $23 per hour for graduate students
Length of Internship Program: Two years, May – May, Full time or part time
