WHAT IS STARR?STARR (Substance use Treatment and Recidivism Reduction) is a trauma-informed comprehensive substance use disorder and behavioral health treatment program. Our intensive treatment and services are centered to address needs of incarcerated men and women in the Durham County Detention Facility. The STARR program provides evidence-based therapeutic services including screening, brief interventions, assessment, gender specific treatment, and referral to all eligible detainees who have successfully completed the STARR Program and remain incarcerated.
WHAT IS THE TARGET POPULATION FOR STARR? Our target population is incarcerated men and women in the Durham County Detention Facility who have experienced trauma, substance use, misuse and addiction, behavioral addiction, and co-occurring disorders.
WHAT ARE THE KEY ELEMENTS OF THE PROGRAM? In addition to substance use treatment, the STARR curriculum includes vocational training, anger management, parenting/family systems and other elements. Transitional case management services are provided to link individuals to available resources according to their needs and service plan objectives. Our case manager is utilized to facilitate referrals to appropriate treatment and housing facilities.
WHAT ARE THE COMMUNITY BENEFITS OF STARR? The STARR program reduces jail recidivism and enhances public safety by assisting detained men and women return to the community as law-abiding citizens.
