Post Date:11/16/2023 6:00 PM

Durham, N.C. – The community is invited to the kick-off event for Durham County Government's guaranteed income pilot program, DCo Thrives. The public is invited to the free screening of the award-winning documentary, It’s Basic, on Monday, November 20 at 5 p.m. Following the screening, a roundtable discussion moderated by County Manager Dr. Kimberly J. Sowell will feature program administrators, guaranteed income recipients, and Mayor Pro Temp Mark-Anthony Middleton. Chair Brenda Howerton and Commissioner Nida Allam, both instrumental to the national movement supporting Counties for a Guaranteed Income, will also give remarks.

Durham County is taking a bold step towards addressing economic disparities by implementing DCo Thrives, a guaranteed income pilot program that aims to help Durham families go from surviving to thriving. This program will provide no-strings attached financial support to 125 low-income families and assess the potential positive impacts on the community.

The upcoming event to take place at the Durham Convention Center, located at 301 W. Morgan Street, is free of charge and will feature a DJ, movie screening, free concessions, and giveaways. Registration is not required to attend.
