Missing Durham County Man Located
Durham, NC (Saturday, October 22, 2022) --- Sheriff Clarence Birkhead is pleased to announce that Mr. Tommy Watkins, missing from his Redwood Rd. home, has been located.
He was found around midnight by one of the search crews that continued to look for him throughout the night. He has been taken to an area hospital to be assessed but does not appear to have suffered any serious injury.
"Without the tireless efforts of Sheriff's Office personnel and from multiple partner agencies who responded, this could have had a tragic outcome." said Sheriff Birkhead.
We'd like to thank the many agencies who responded and worked together throughout the search including Durham City/County Emergency Management, Durham Fire, Redwood Fire, Durham City GIS, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, North Carolina Emergency Management, Orange County Emergency Services, South Orange Rescue Squad, Western Wake Fire, Wake K9 SAR, NC REDS, Central NC SAR and the Redwood Ruritan Club.
The Silver Alert has been cancelled and no further information is expected to be released.

The Durham County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), with the assistance of Emergency Management, Fire, and the State Highway Patrol are conducting a search for a missing man.
72-year-old Tommy Watkins was last seen on the evening of Thursday, October 20 in his home on the 3100 block of Redwood Rd. He has a cognitive impairment and medical issues for which he needs medication.
Mr. Watkins is believed to be wearing the clothing in the photo (see below) described as a red collared shirt and grey sweatpants, as well as a green camouflage coat with an orange lining.
