Beginning Tuesday, July 26, free COVID-19 at-home test kits will be available for pickup Mondays-Fridays at the Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH). Tests will be available for all people ages 18 or older. No insurance or identification is required, and individuals are not required to be Durham residents in order to pick up free tests. These tests will be provided through the screening window at the front entrance of the Durham County Health and Human Services Building, located at 414 E. Main St, Durham, NC 27701.
Test pickup hours are as follows:
- Mondays. Wednesdays, Fridays: 9:00AM-1:00PM
- Tuesdays, Thursdays: 12:00PM-4:00PM

NCDHHS guidance, it is important to get tested if one or more of the following is true:
- You have symptoms of COVID-19. Get tested even if you are up-to-date on your COVID-19 vaccines.
- You have come into close contact with someone with COVID-19. Get tested at least five days after you last had close contact with someone with COVID-19. The date of the last close contact is day 0.
- You are not up-to-date with your COVID-19 vaccines and have been prioritized for expanded community screening for COVID-19.
- You were asked or referred to get testing by your:
- school,
- workplace,
- health care provider, or
- state, tribal, local or territorial health department.
- You are traveling (get tested before and after travel).

In addition to providing free at-home tests, DCoDPH continues to partner with Optum Serve to support free drive-through testing at the Lakewood Shopping Center, located at 2000 Chapel Hill Rd., Durham, NC 27707. Testing at this location is open Tuesdays-Saturdays 10:00AM-6:00PM and is available for all people age 1 year or older, no insurance or ID required. Appointments are optional.
