Durham, NC - July 13, 2022
The Durham County Department of Health (DCoDPH) has updated its vaccine eligibility criteria for individuals to receive Jynneos, a vaccine to prevent monkeypox illness or lead to less severe symptoms in individuals recently exposed to monkeypox. This update is to expand the list of travel states qualifying individuals for vaccination. Eligible individuals may call the DCoDPH resource line at 919-560-9217 to request vaccination if they meet one of the following eligibility criteria:
- People who have been in close physical contact with someone diagnosed with monkeypox
- Men who have sex with men, or transgender individuals, who have had multiple or anonymous sex partners in the last 14 days in either a venue where monkeypox was present or in an area where the virus is spreading. This list includes several locations in Europe and nowany US state with 20 or more confirmed cases of monkeypox, as reported by global and U.S. case numbers posted on the CDC website here.
The
original vaccination criteria reflected states in which monkeypox was spreading at the time vaccines became available (California, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York and Texas). As cases spread within the United States, the criteria have been expanded to include additional states experiencing monkeypox spread, while continuing to prioritize individuals with confirmed or suspected monkeypox exposure while vaccination supply remains low.
As of July 12, states with 20 or more cases are California, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia. This list will be updated Monday-Friday on the
CDC website.
Anyone can get monkeypox. If you have an unexplained rash, sores or other symptoms, contact your healthcare provider. Keep the rash covered and avoid sex or being intimate with anyone until you have been evaluated by a medical provider.
