Arrest Made in Cooper Thefts

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Durham (Thursday, May 4, 2022) - The Durham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) has charged 48-year-old Frederick Jermaine Pullen Jr. of Durham with breaking and entering, obtaining property by false pretense, injury to property to obtain nonferrous metals, second-degree trespassing and misdemeanor larceny in connection with the theft of copper wire from multiple locations across Durham County throughout the month of April 2022. Pullen, who has previous felony convictions on similar charges, was released after receiving an unsecured $5000 bond by a magistrate.

On the morning of April 16, 2022, DCSO deputies from the patrol division were called to a home in the 3400 block of Hersey Street after the resident discovered that copper wire he had been storing at the home was missing. The resident provided deputies with home surveillance photos of the person removing approximately 100 lbs. of wire from a porch.On April 22ndpatrol deputies responded to the 900 block of Valment Drive for a breaking and entering in progress after the resident was alerted to someone on his property by their security system. When law enforcement arrived, they observed that a lock on a shed behind a residence had been broken. After the resident reviewed the contents of the shed, it was discovered that two (2) containers of copper wire has been taken.During the course of the investigation, detectives learned the stolen wire was sold to an area recycling company. Based on evidence at the facility and suspect and vehicle descriptions obtained at both crime scenes, Mr. Pullen was identified as a suspect. He was arrested on Tuesday, May 3rd, without incident.

The Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions worked together to bring these investigations to a timely conclusion.
