New COVID-19 vaccine scheduling options available through the Durham County Department of Public Health

Post Date:01/20/2021 5:56 PM
Durham, NC - January 20, 2021 -
The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) now provides two additional ways for eligible community members to sign up to receive COVID-19 vaccines. Individuals in Phase 1 or Phase 2 of the state and federal COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout Plan can schedule an appointment through an online booking system or sign up for a waitlist to receive a call back if new appointments become available before additional vaccination dates are added. Both forms may be accessed in English and Spanish on our website.  Appointments are only available for Phases 1 and 2 at this time. Appointments scheduled by individuals not in Phase 1 or 2 will be cancelled and given to those currently eligible to be vaccinated.

These appointment booking options are provided in addition to the Durham County COVID-19 vaccine scheduling phone line at 919-560-HELP (919-560-4357). At this time, we are scheduling vaccinations through April 30 and will add additional dates each month. The public will be notified in advance before new dates are added. We will provide notification through media updates, our website, social media, health director videos, and our email subscription service. At this time, appointments are still available through April 30. If all appointments are filled, we will notify the public and continue to accept waitlist submissions in order to call community members if appointments become available before new dates are added.

Appointments will be scheduled through these processes for vaccines administered at DCoDPH and Southern High School.

"We are delighted to be able to launch these additional opportunities for residents to schedule their COVID-19 vaccines," said Health Director Rod Jenkins. "Our team has worked for weeks to build online vaccine scheduling and waitlist options and to incorporate recent changes in vaccination priorities laid out by the state, and we are glad to now have these tools available to the community."

In order to quickly and efficiently provide vaccinations, individuals on the waitlist who are unable to answer when we call will receive a voicemail notifying them that their appointment availability must be given to the next individual on the list, and they are encouraged to add their name to the waitlist again. Community members should not anticipate immediate calls after adding their name to the waitlist.

"We expect that vaccine appointment slots available through the online booking system will fill quickly, and our waitlist will likely hold several thousand names of community members in need of vaccines," said Jenkins. "We will do all we can to ensure that people on the waitlist are contacted as quickly as possible, but we urge community members to remember that it will likely take several days to receive a call back. We thank the community for their continued patience and cooperation as we continue to expand and get vaccines out as safely and quickly as possible."
