County Roadside Recycling Collection Moves to Earlier Time

Residents to Place Bins At the Curb by 6 a.m.

Post Date:05/28/2013 1:00 PM

Durham, NC – Throughout most of the year, residents receiving Durham County’s Roadside Recycling Collection services are accustomed to a 7 a.m. pick up time. Beginning, Monday, June 3, 2013, Durham County Roadside Recycling Collection will change to the summer pick up schedule that begins at 6 a.m. Residents should have their recycling bins out by 6 a.m. through the month of September.

According to the Solid Waste Division within the Durham County General Services Department, the earlier collection allows crews to begin the pickup of materials before the heat of the day, helping to reduce waste odors and warm weather sicknesses. “By moving the collection time up, recycling collection crews are less prone to experience weather-related illnesses,” said Brian Haynesworth, Solid Waste Program Manager.  “Heat exhaustion or heat stroke can quickly come upon a laborer during the summer months.”
