County Announces Interim CIO

Interim Chief Information Officer Begins March 18

Durham, NC – Durham County has appointed Lib Wanner as the interim chief information officer (CIO). She will begin work on Monday, March 18, 2013.

According to Deputy County Manager Lee Worsley, Wanner is a great fit for the position as the County concludes the recruitment process for a permanent CIO. “Lib is a CIO veteran with valuable knowledge, skills and abilities.” Wanner, who will lead the Information Technology and SAP operations for Durham County, most recently served as the CIO for Wake County Government until her retirement in April 2012.

As CIO, Lib worked with departments to establish strategies, policies and governance processes for the use of technology in the organization. She also worked closely with a 5 member departmental management team charged with managing the day to day IT operations in the areas of technical infrastructure-including network, security, computer operations, 800 Mhz radio operations, database management & disaster recovery; business applications-both in-house developed and purchased; enterprise resource planning (ERP)-through the retirement of an old system and deployment of a new one; applied technologies-including internal & external websites, social media, web development, and emerging technologies; and customer support services-including desktop and helpdesk support and telecommunications management.

Prior to this position, she worked with other county departments to establish strategies, policies and governance processes for the use of technology in the organization.

Wanner comes to Durham County Government after working in the technology area in local government in NC since 1995 and more than 33 years of local government experience. Since her retirement, she launched a life coaching and management consulting business. Wanner holds a master’s in Public Administration from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a bachelor’s degree from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
