DURHAM, N.C. – Flu season is officially here. Getting a flu vaccine every year is the best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu. The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) is now offering seasonal influenza (flu) shots at the Human Services Building, 414 E. Main Street. Flu shots will be administered on Mondays, 8:30AM-11AM, and Fridays, 1PM-4PM in the Immunization Clinic, 1st Floor, Clinic 6.
Pricing is based on a sliding scale. Cash, check, credit cards, and some insurance plans are acceptable forms of payment. Youth ages six (6) months to 18 who are not insured qualify for a state-supplied vaccine at no cost.
“Vaccination is the simplest step you can take to protect yourself against the flu,” said Arlene Seña, MD, medical director, DCoDPH. “It is also important to practice good hand hygiene. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an approved hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.”
Insurance is not required to receive a flu shot. Individuals with insurance are asked to bring their insurance cards. Only injectable flu shots are recommended for use this season.
Flu Symptoms Include:
- A 100oF or higher fever or feeling feverish (not everyone with the flu has a fever)
- A cough and/or sore throat
- A runny or stuffy nose
- Headaches and/or body aches
- Chills
- Fatigue
- Nausea, vomiting, and/or diarrhea (most common in children)
