SCREWDRIVER LEADS TO HEROIN ARREST
Durham, N.C., Dec. 18, 2012—A Durham woman was arrested for possession of heroin yesterday after trying to enter the Durham County Courthouse with drugs and drug paraphernalia in her purse.
Kelly Michelle Hawkins, 32, of 1816 Fletchers Chapel Rd in Durham, was attempting to enter the Durham County Courthouse at about 9 a.m. yesterday when the deputy working door security observed what appeared to be a screwdriver and razor blade in Hawkins’ purse as it passed through the X-ray machine.
The deputy searched Hawkins’ purse to confirm what he had observed on the X-ray machine monitor and discovered Hawkins’ purse also contained several small packages of heroin.
Hawkins was arrested without incident and has been charged with felony possession of heroin and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. She was also served with a warrant from Orange County for harassing phone calls.
Hawkins posted a bond of $4,500 and was released from the Durham County Jail about 5:40 p.m. yesterday.
