METAL THIEVES WHO TARGETED CHURCHES ARRESTED
Durham, N.C., Dec. 8, 2012—Sheriff’s investigators have charged two men with multiple crimes following the conclusion of a weeks-long investigation to determine who was stealing copper from numerous churches and other public buildings in northern Durham County.

Arthur Lenward Jenkins, 43, of 5690 Oxford Rd in Timberlake was arrested Wednesday and is currently lodged in the Durham County Jail under a $220,000 bond. He is charged with the following crimes:

• Felony breaking and entering
• Misdemeanor larceny
• Felony larceny (15 counts)
• Felony conspiracy (13 counts)
• Misdemeanor attempted larceny (2 counts)
• Injuring property to obtain nonferrous metals (11 counts)
• Cutting, mutilating, defacing, or otherwise injuring property to obtain nonferrous metals (3 counts)
• Attempted larceny (2 counts)

Antonio Eggleton, 39, also of 5690 Oxford Rd in Timberlake was arrested Nov. 30 and is currently in custody at Central Prison in Raleigh under a $210,000 bond and is charged with the following crimes:

• Felony larceny (3 counts)
• Misdemeanor larceny
• Felony breaking and entering
• Cutting, mutilating, defacing, or otherwise injuring property to obtain nonferrous metals (3 counts)

The lead investigator in the case, Det. J.M. Smith, says the two men are responsible for thefts of air conditioning units and parts and property damage that occurred throughout the month of November at the following locations:

• Kingdom Hall Jehovah’s Witness (114 Bowen Rd, Rougemont)
• Red Mountain Baptist Church (1322 Red Mountain Rd, Rougemont)
• Praise and Deliverance Church (10855 Quail Roost Rd, Bahama)
• New Red Mountain Missionary Baptist Church (1401 Red Mountain Rd, Rougemont)
• Bahama Ruritan Club (8202 Stagville Rd, Bahama)
• Knap of Reeds Masonic Lodge (158 Bahama Rd, Bahama)

Jenkins and Eggleton’s crime spree wasn’t limited to Durham County. The two men are also facing numerous similar charges in Person County following the conclusion a parallel investigation by Person County Sheriff’s Office.
