Facts:
• The Durham County Department of Social Services will host its first community information session on foster care on Monday, November 12, 2012 at North Regional Library.
• The information session will be the Department’s first since the kickoff of its current Foster Care Campaign.
• Durham County DSS’ Foster Care Campaign is geared at increasing the placement of displaced children in foster homes in Durham County. The Campaign tells the story of the approximately 160 children in the County’s foster care system and how proper placement can positively impact individuals’ lives.
• Families, social workers, educators and interested residents are invited to the community information session to learn about foster care and retention in Durham County.
• The meeting will address inquiries about the process and requirements for becoming a foster parent. Additionally, attendees will learn about resources available to foster parents in Durham County.
• The keynote speakers for the event include a local family that will share their story about their experience with foster care in the area.
