DURHAM, NC - (Tuesday, September 30, 2025) – Shortly before 11:30 a.m. this morning, the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Southern High School was called to intervene in a fight involving multiple individuals at the school.  The SRO attempted to physically separate those involved, but as the fight continued to progress, the deputy’s Taser was deployed, causing the participants to scatter, no one was injured. Southern High School was placed on “Hold” status for approximately 20 minutes during the incident. Additional responding deputies aided in speaking with witnesses and those involved. 

This matter remains under investigation and DCSO is working with Durham Public Schools to identify the participants and determine whether any criminal charges are necessary.
