Deputies Respond After Shots Fired in Apparent Road Rage Incident

DURHAM, NC (Wednesday, December 4, 2024) – Just after 9:00 p.m. on the evening of Tuesday, December 3, 2024, a vehicle occupied by its driver and a passenger was traveling on S. Mineral Springs Road near NC 98 when it was fired on in an apparent road rage incident.  The driver stated to responding deputies that the suspect vehicle, a dark blue Chevy Malibu, was traveling slowly and they had honked at the driver.  When the Malibu turned off S. Mineral Springs Rd., someone inside the vehicle fired several rounds at the victim’s vehicle. The victim continued from the scene to their nearby destination.  One of the rounds did graze the passenger.  EMS was called to evaluate the injury, but the individual did not require transport.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Forensics unit responded and located multiple shell casings where the incident was reported to have occurred.  This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be provided when appropriate.
