Durham, NC (Friday, October 25, 2024) --- Tonight, Durham County Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead announces separate disciplinary action involving two (2) individuals associated with the Durham County Detention Center – one being a detention officer and the other a civilian.
In the case involving the DCSO Detention Officer,
former Sergeant Nicole Locke was arrested earlier today by DCSO and charged with the following offenses:
Arrested: 45 y/o Nicole Locke of Raleigh
Charged With:
- Two (2) counts Felony Conspiracy
- One (1) count Felony Providing Phone/Electronics to Inmates
- One (1) count Misdemeanor Conspiracy
Locke was released on a $15,000 unsecured bond and is no longer associated with the office.
In the other criminal incident, a female civilian contract employee was arrested and charged with the following:
Arrested: 31 y/o Briana Ashley Bowie of Durham
Charge: One (1) count Felony Conspiracy To Sell Sch VI Controlled Substance
Bowie’s bond was set at $5,000 unsecured. The vendor has been notified of the charges and the person no longer works in the detention facility.
Sheriff Birkhead reiterated: "I will not stand for any activity which contradicts our mission in the care and custody of the people who are confined to the Durham County Detention Facility. Be it a Sheriff’s Office employee or a contractor; we must hold everyone who interacts with our residents to a high standard."
