DURHAM, NC (Monday, March 18, 2024) – A Durham man is dead after being shot by a family member during a domestic disturbance on Sunday night.
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on March 17, 2024, deputies from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office were called to a home on the 4800 block of Red Mountain Rd in northern Durham County. The first deputy on the scene located a deceased male in front of the home and a family member who reported they had shot him.
Witnesses stated that the shooting occurred as the result of a physical altercation between the deceased and his father. Durham County EMS responded to the residence but were unable to revive him. The father was taken to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the fight.
Members of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and Forensics Unit responded to conduct an investigation and process evidence. The Medical Examiner will release the official cause of death when they complete their investigation.
The deceased is identified as Mattew Austin Lockamy, 39 years of age, of the residence.
