Durham, N.C. (January 24, 2024) -- As the Durham County Sheriff’s Office prepares for its annual review from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead encourages members of the community to offer comments and feedback regarding DCSO operations.
“CALEA is a voluntary process for DCSO to confirm our accreditation, which is a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence. While a final review process happens every four years, we submit annual reports and participate in annual remote web-based assessments attesting to continued compliance," said Sheriff BIrkhead.
As part of the annual accreditation process, CALEA has established a public comment portal where residents of Durham County can offer feedback to support our continuous improvement. Visit the portal and leave comments regarding the Durham County Sheriff's Office

accreditation page of our website.
