ANNUAL CALEA ASSESSMENT FOR DCSO

Post Date:01/26/2024 12:00 PM

Durham, N.C. (January 24, 2024) -- As the Durham County Sheriff’s Office prepares for its annual review from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead encourages members of the community to offer comments and feedback regarding DCSO operations.
“CALEA is a voluntary process for DCSO to confirm our accreditation, which is a highly prized recognition of public safety professional excellence. While a final review process happens every four years, we submit annual reports and participate in annual remote web-based assessments attesting to continued compliance," said Sheriff BIrkhead.

As part of the annual accreditation process, CALEA has established a public comment portal where residents of Durham County can offer feedback to support our continuous improvement. Visit the portal and leave comments regarding the Durham County Sheriff's Office here. A link is also posted on the accreditation page of our website.
