Beginning Monday, March 27, the Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) will begin offering updated (bivalent) COVID-19 booster shots for children ages six months through four years who previously completed the full three-dose monovalent Pfizer COVID-19 primary vaccination series. With this
expanded eligibility, children in this age group are eligible for a bivalent Pfizer booster at least two months after receiving their third monovalent Pfizer vaccine dose.
This authorization is for children six months through four years of age who completed their three-dose primary vaccination series with the monovalent Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, before the bivalent Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine was authorized to provide the third dose in the three-dose primary series. Since December 2022, children in this age group who receive their first two doses with monovalent Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine should have completed their three-dose primary series with the bivalent Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. As such, children who received a bivalent Pfizer primary series dose are not eligible for a booster dose of a bivalent vaccine at this time as they are expected to be protected against serious COVID-19 outcomes.
The DCoDPH COVID-19 vaccination clinic is located at 414 E. Main St, Durham, NC, 27701. The clinic is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 9:00AM-4:30PM, closed daily 12:00PM-1:00PM. All vaccinations are provided by walk-in.
In addition to bivalent booster vaccinations, DCoDPH also continues to provide all other approved brands and doses of COVID-19 vaccines for eligible individuals of all ages.
