Durham County Health Department Receives Limited Supply of Monkeypox Vaccine

Post Date:07/07/2022 6:08 PM

The Durham County Department of Health (DCoDPH) is one ofseven North Carolina health departments to have received a limited supply of Jynnneos, a vaccine to prevent monkeypox illness or lead to less severe symptoms in individuals recently exposed to monkeypox. These vaccinations will be available at DCoDPH to eligible individuals soon. Appointments are not yet available to be scheduled; an additional update will be shared when appointments are available.
Because of very limited supply, these vaccinations in North Carolina will currently only be offered to the following individuals with known or suspected exposure to monkeypox:
  • People who have been in close physical contact with someone diagnosed with monkeypox; and
  • Men who have sex with men, or transgender individuals, who have had multiple or anonymous sex partners in the last 14 days in either a venue where monkeypox was present or in an area where the virus is spreading. Currently, this includes several locations in Europe and parts of California, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, New York and Texas. Updated global and U.S. case numbers are posted on the CDC site here.
Anyone can get monkeypox. If you have an unexplained rash, sores or other symptoms, see your healthcare provider. Keep the rash covered and avoid sex or being intimate with anyone until you have been evaluated by a medical provider.

Currently, no cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in Durham County.
