Post Date:01/13/2022 2:33 PM
Durham, NC - January 13, 2021

The Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) and Optum Serve partners will open two new free COVID-19 testing locations in Durham County. Beginning Saturday, January 15 at 1:00PM, COVID-19 testing will be available at the Durham County Memorial Stadium, located at 750 Stadium Dr., Durham, NC 27704. Beginning Tuesday, January 18 at 1:00PM, testing will be available at Wheels Fun Park, located at 715 N. Hoover Rd., Durham, NC 27703.

Both sites will be available for drive-through testing every day for all people age one and older. After opening at 1:00PM on their first day of operation, testing at the Durham County Memorial Stadium will be available from 11:00AM to 7:00PM, and testing at Wheels Fun Park will be available from 10:00AM to 6:00PM. Advanced registration is encouraged but not required. To register, visit Lhi.care/COVIDtesting. Testing at both sites will be free, and no insurance or ID will be required. These sites will offer PCR (non-rapid) testing only.

“We are thrilled to be able to work with our partners at Optum to help provide more testing here in Durham,” said Durham County Public Health Director Rod Jenkins. “As testing demand has surged and become more important than ever, Optum has been an excellent partner in running Durham’s testing sites at El Centro Hispano and 414 E. Main Street, and we know we will be able to continue providing a smooth and convenient testing experience for our community members. We encourage everyone not to hesitate to get tested if needed. Please utilize these new sites to get tested and help protect yourselves and others.”

The following guidelines are provided by the NC Department of Health and Human Services for determining if and when COVID-19 testing is recommended:

“Fully vaccinated individuals should get tested if they:
  • Are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Anyone experiencing symptoms should get tested immediately.
  • Have had close contact with someone who has COVID-19, even if they are not experiencing symptoms. You should get tested within 3-5 days after exposure.
  • Are traveling internationally and returning to the United States. Fully vaccinated international travelers are required to get tested three days before travel by air into the U.S. and should also get tested 3-5 days after their trip.
Unvaccinated individuals should get tested if they:
  • Are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Anyone experiencing symptoms should get tested immediately.
  • Have come in contact with someone who has COVID-19, even if they are not experiencing symptoms. If they do not have symptoms, they should wait at least six days after their last known exposure to COVID-19 before they get tested.
  • Take part in activities that put them at higher risk for COVID-19 because they cannot physically distance as needed to avoid exposure, such as travel, attending large social or mass gatherings, or being in crowded or poorly ventilated indoor settings.”
COVID-19 testing is also available through Optum Serve at El Centro Hispano, located at 2000 Chapel Hill Rd., Durham, NC 27707, every day from 10:00am to 6:00pm; and 414 E. Main St, Durham, NC 27703 every Saturday-Sunday from 9:00am to 7:00pm. Registration is strongly encouraged but not required. To register, visit Lhi.care/covidtesting

Testing at the Durham County Memorial Stadium and Wheels Fun Park will close on Monday, January 17 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Testing at El Centro Hispano will remain open.
