Durham, N.C. – Durham County Government has initiated its search for a new county manager. The process to onboard a new manager began in early July with a request for proposals (RFP) from qualified executive search firms to assist the County during the recruitment process. Developmental Associates, LLC, was selected to facilitate the search process. Developmental Associates, LLC, is an executive search firm that aids organizations with talent identification, talent development succession planning and other organizational development needs. The Durham County Manager recruitment process began this month with the goal of finishing the overall search by early 2022.
Durham County is committed to involving the community in the hiring of Durham County’s next county manager. The public is invited to be a part of the highly competitive hiring process by participating in a survey. The information requested in this survey will be used to identify competencies needed in the next county manager as well as critical issues facing the County. All responses are anonymous. Results will be summarized by Developmental Associates. About the County Manager
The county manager serves as the chief administrator of the County. The manager is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Commissioners. The manager supervises and coordinates the activities of the County departments for the Board, seeing that all orders and policies are carried out. The manager also works to ensure that the policies and guidelines mandated by both federal and North Carolina state statutes are implemented. The manager also recommends an annual budget, makes recommendations on appropriate matters of business, represents the County in dealing with various agencies and performs other duties assigned by the Board.
