DURHAM, N.C. – Employees from Durham County, the City of Durham and Durham Public Schools have challenged each other to become more physically active and exercise the most in one month.
Goal 2 of Durham County’s strategic plan is health and well-being for all residents. With so many obesity-related ailments plaguing the Durham community, representatives from all three agencies agreed the push for a healthier Durham should begin with them.
“We are confident that the employees from these agencies will lead by example and their participation in more physical activity and healthier eating will inspire more Durham County residents to do the same,” said Gayle Harris, Durham County director of public health.
Each agency has its own health and wellness initiative and will use this challenge as a way to spark interest in their individual programs. The employees will use the website, AHealthierDurham.com to join their respective work group and log their physical activity time and meals.
“We have a wonderful resource in AhealthierDurham.com and this challenge will give us an opportunity to empower more people to take charge of their health,” Harris said.
The winner of the challenge will be announced at this year’s first Bull City Play Streets event at W.G. Pearson Elementary School on April 12.
