Durham County to Recognize Labor Day Holiday 2020

Durham, N.C. – Durham County Government will close most offices for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 7, 2020. The full schedule detailing holidays observed by Durham County Government in 2020 is available here.

 

Board of County Commissioners Work Session

The Durham Board of County Commissioners will hold their upcoming Work Session at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. Due to the Labor Day holiday, the meeting will not be held on Monday, September 7.  The meeting will be held virtually.

 

Board meetings are cablecast live and rebroadcast on Durham Television Network (DTN) on Spectrum Channel 8. Replays are available on DTN along with AT&T U-verse Channel 99, Google Fiber Channel 8 and Frontier Communications Channel 70. Meetings can also be viewed on the County’s YouTube channel. Durham County General Services

The Durham County General Services Department will close all four of its solid waste and recycling convenience sites on September 7th in recognition of the Labor Day Holiday. Durham County residents with a current solid waste decal can resume disposal of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County’s convenience sites on September 8th beginning at 7 a.m.

 

Unincorporated residents participating in the County’s Roadside Recycling Program (green recycling carts) will have no change to their recycling collection due to the Labor Day holiday. Unincorporated residents are reminded that carts should be set out by 6 am on their regularly scheduled pick up day.

Durham County Library

All locations of the Durham County Library will be closed on Monday, September 7, for the Labor Day holiday. The library will reopen its Take-Out! service with normal Take-Out! hours on Tuesday, September 8.

Durham County Department of Public Health

The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government Labor Day holiday closing schedule.

 

For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closure, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services

The Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices on September 7. While offices are closed, residents should contact an on-call social worker by calling 911 to report child abuse and neglect or adult abuse and neglect. On September 8, DSS will reopen and operate according to its normal hours of operation.

Durham County Sheriff’s Office

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office patrol division is available 24/7. The Sheriff’s Administration and Records Division will be closed on September 7 and will reopen on September 8.
