County Board of Elections Prepares to Reissue Provisional Ballots for Recasting

Post Date:07/07/2016

Durham, NC ─ The North Carolina State Board of Elections has ordered the Durham County Board of Elections to reissue provisional ballots to eligible voters that may have participated in the Partisan Primary and School Board Election held in March 2016. Due to apparent mishandling of some provisional ballots during the March 15th Primary, the opportunity to vote again will be offered to 899 voters. According to the State Board of Elections, voter eligibility for the purposes of this recasting opportunity is determined as of the date of the March 2016 primary, not current registration status.

Provisional ballots will be mailed out on Friday, July 8, to enable mishandled votes to be counted towards the totals from the March election. Voters will have until Friday, July 22nd to return ballots to the Durham Board of Elections Office, located at 201 N Roxboro St, Durham, NC 27701. Ballots may be returned to the Durham Board of Elections Office by mail, courier, or personal delivery of the voter or near relative. The deadline to receive absentee ballots postmarked on or before by July 22nd is Friday, July 29th.

The results will be added to the tabulated vote totals at the Durham County Board of Elections Meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 11th. At that time, an amended vote total will be announced.

Questions about the reissuance of these absentee ballots should be directed to the Durham Board of Elections at (919) 560-0700.
