BOCC Regular Session Highlights from November 12

Durham, NC – The Durham Board of County Commissioners met at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012, and considered an agenda that included the following highlights:
Chairman Michael Page began the meeting by reflecting on the importance of our veterans and by thanking them for their service in protection of our county.
Chairman Michael Page proclaimed November 2012 as “Home Care and Hospice Month” in Durham County in celebration of in-home health and community based services to provide compassionate care for those in need.
In addition, Chairman l Page proclaimed November “National Adoption Month” to raise awareness of the need for adaptive homes for children in foster care.
The Board approved a sole source exemption for the purchase of a 911 Communications Center Telephone Service Package, including a 5 year maintenance agreement from Intrado in the amount of $299,920.00. Intrado is an emergency communications technology provider and provides 911 telephone service at the Durham Emergency Communications Center.
Durham County Commissioners authorized a proposed parking lot expansion at the Southwest Regional Library located at 3605 Shannon Road. The expansion of the parking lot will address user demand, reduce congestion and improve safety. In addition to providing some reconfigured handicapped spaces, the overall number will increase from 88 to 111 spaces for a cost of $250,000.
The Board of County Commissioners received a monthly update on the Durham County Strategic Plan implementation that included: Year 1 initiative Highlights, the new Strategic Plan website and collaborative efforts and plan alignment.
The next regular session of the Durham Board of Commissioners will be held on Monday, November 26 at 7:00pm.
