Durham, NC — Once the celebration of the New Year rings in, residents will be faced with the annual tax deadlines. As the upcoming tax deadline approaches, the Durham County Tax Administration Office encourages citizens to prepare for real and tangible personal tax payments for tax year 2014. The deadline is Monday, January 5, 2015.
To avoid interest, fees, liens and collection enforcement actions payments should be made by upcoming deadline. By North Carolina statute, real estate taxes that remain unpaid will be advertised.
Payment options include payment by telephone, online with a check or credit card, or payment by mail to PO Box 3397, Durham NC, 27702. Citizens that pay in person are reminded to have a copy of the bill and be prepared to pay with cash or check. Citizens should note that counter checks are not accepted and a processing fee applies when using credit or debit cards. The Tax Administration Office is located on the first floor of the Durham County Administrative Building, 200 East Main Street in downtown Durham.
E-services are available via web at www.dconc.gov; click on the e-services tab. E-services include the ability to pay using electronic check or credit card. A processing fee applies when using credit or debit cards.
In addition to tax deadline reminders, the County Tax Office reminds residents that the 2015 Listing Forms will soon be mailed to business owners and citizens who listed personal property in 2014 Listing forms can be accessed from the Durham County website at www.dconc.gov by clicking on the DCo forms tab at the bottom of the page. Important notes about the listing forms include:
• Listing period begins on January 1, 2015 and ends February 2, 2015.
• Individuals who do not own or operate a business will be required to list their individual personal property such as boats, motors, jet skis, manufactured homes by February 2, 2015.
• Individuals who have added additions to their real property are required to list such additions on a listing form annually.
Individuals who operate a business will be required to list their business personal property by February 2, 2015. Extensions can be granted if requested by February 2, 2015. To request a business personal property extension or to list business personal property citizens can utilize the online business listing system located at www.dconc.gov. To access the system, click on Business and follow the Online Business Listing System link.
Requests for Property Tax Exemptions are required to be filed during the regular listing period which is January 1, 2015 through February 2, 2015, however, Elderly Homestead and Circuit Breaker applications can be filed until June 1, 2015.
