DURHAM, NC (Friday, October 3, 2025) – At approximately 11:00 p.m. on the evening of Thursday, October 2, 2025, a deputy with the Durham County Sheriff's Office was in the area of Carpenter Fletcher Road and NC 55 when they observed two vehicles involved in street racing.

The deputy, operating an unmarked vehicle, attempted to stop the cars. One of the vehicles immediately turned off its lights and fled at a high rate of speed, evading the deputy's view.

The suspect vehicle was located a short time later, involved in a crash with a third, uninvolved vehicle at the intersection of NC 55 and Riddle Road. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was called to the scene to conduct the crash investigation.

This incident remains under investigation by the Durham County Sheriff's Office.
