Arrest Made In Durham County Homicide

DURHAM, NC (Wednesday, May 21, 2025) – This afternoon, investigators from the Durham County Sheriff's Office arrested 38-year-old Alexander James Glenn Jr. in connection with the death of his mother, Stephanie McCoy, without incident.  

"We received a number of tips from the public regarding this case, which eventually led to this arrest," said Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead. "We appreciate everyone who reached out.  I want to commend the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), along with the Sheriff's Office Anti-Crime/Narcotics Unit (SAC/Narc) and Strike Team for the tremendous job they did working together to locate and safely take Alexander Glenn Jr. into custody." 

Glenn Jr. has been charged with First Degree Murder. He is currently being held in the Durham County detention center without bond. He will make a first appearance in Durham County Court on Thursday morning.

The Durham County Sheriff’s Office has updated information regarding the death investigation that occurred on Red Mill Road on Thursday afternoon. 

Victim and Suspect Identified in Death Investigation

DURHAM, NC (Friday, May 16, 2025) – The Durham County Sheriff’s Office has updated information regarding the death investigation that occurred on Red Mill Road, on Thursday afternoon. 

The victim has been identified as 64-year-old Stephanie Donita McCoy of the home.  Earlier on Thursday, deputies from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office had responded to the residence due to the report of a disturbance. McCoy’s son, 38-year-old Alexander James Glenn Jr., and his mother were involved in a verbal dispute. He left the home while deputies were present. 
 
Later, deputies were again called to the residence. At that time, Ms.McCoy was found to be unresponsive due to an apparent homicide.  Evidence gathered points to Mr. Glenn as the primary suspect in this death investigation. He is still at large. Glenn has a history of violent behavior and has been convicted of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill and other equal or greater charges. 
 
If you see Alexander Glenn Jr., do not approach, but call 911 immediately; he should be considered dangerous.

Death Investigation Underway in Northern Durham County

DURHAM  (Thursday, May 15, 2025) - Shortly after 1:00 P.M. today, the Durham County Sheriff's Office was called to a home on the 4500 block of Red Mill Rd. in northern Durham County.  On arrival, they located a deceased female inside the home.  Members of the Criminal Investigation Division and the Forensics Unit are on scene conducting an investigation at this hour. 

Sheriff Clarence F. Birkhead advises that this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the public.  We are in the early stages of this investigation and will release more information when it becomes available.
