Redwood Convenience Site to Close Temporarily

Closure from June 9-July 7 due to tree removal and road construction

Post Date:05/14/2025 9:00 AM

Durham, N.C. – The Durham County Solid Waste Redwood Convenience Site will temporarily close for approximately one month due to tree removal, road construction, and preparations for construction of the Durham County Sheriff’s Office Training Facility. The Redwood Convenience Site, located at 100 Electra Road, will be closed to the public beginning Monday, June 9, 2025, remaining closed completely until Monday, July 7, 2025.

Residents of unincorporated Durham County who regularly use the Redwood location are reminded of the County’s two other convenience sites.

Both the Parkwood Convenience Site at 5928 Highway 55 in Durham, and the Northern Durham Convenience Site at 11894 N. Roxboro Road in Rougemont, will have the following hours of operation during the Redwood Convenience Site closure:

  • Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 7 a.m. -12 p.m.
  • Closed Sundays and County Holidays/Training Days (June 13, June 19, and July 4)

To access one of the County’s sites, residents much have a current 2024-2025 solid waste decal. Signage at the Redwood facility will be clearly posted on site to alert residents of the closure and alternative locations to take their waste.

When the Redwood location reopens, it will feature a new traffic pattern for access to the site. All three Convenience Sites will then return to normal business hours.

“This project is a small part of the renovations of both the training facility and Redwood Convenience Site,” said Chrissie Koroivui, Durham County Solid Waste Program Manager. “We want to thank all Durham County residents who use our facilities for their patience while the Redwood facility is closed.”
