Durham Man Charged in Storage Unit Thefts

DURHAM, NC (Friday, August 2, 2024) - On Tuesday, July 30th Durham County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies were called to a storage facility on the 3800 block of Angier Avenue. When they arrived the manager reported that during a property check, he observed several units had been broken into. During the course of the investigation, DCSO deputies developed information on a possible suspect and the location of some of the stolen items. 
 
On Thursday, August 1st,  members of DCSO's criminal investigation division, patrol division, and Strike Team executed a search warrant at a residence on the 2700 block of Weldon Terr. in Durham. The warrant, a culmination of a lengthy investigation into a series of storage unit break-ins throughout Durham County led to the recovery of items taken from the Angier Avenue storage facility as well as items suspected to be from additional thefts. 

Taken into custody at the home was Derek Roland Erber, 38 of the address. He was transported to the Durham County Detention Facility where is is currently confined without the benefit of bond. 

Erber was charged with: 
34 Counts -  Possession of Stolen Goods 
18 Counts - Breaking and Entering
1 Count - Possession of a Firearm by Felon
1 Count - Possession of Burglary Tools 
1 Count - Felony Conspiracy
